So I was waiting on my Boise Overview shot for the month because usually in Boise we have snow by now. This is what the mountains looked like on December 30th. Crazy huh? The sun was out and it was a nice day...in December.
So I'm finally wrapping up my Boise Overview shots and I've enjoyed taking one of these every month. They weren't always on the 1st of every month but I made to all of them. For the first few months I did them on the 1st but then I started to wait until I had some cool clouds to shoot up there and take my shot.

So I saw something similar to this done and I had to put my own spin on it and this is it. So starting out I knew I needed two shots. One of me laying down and another of me leaning up like my soul is coming out. So I took two shots with a off camera 580EX II speedlight camera right shot though a grid.
So, as usual. I get these in post and I start screwing around and am not sure where I'm going with it, but that's how I learn with this stuff. I knew I didn't want the soul to just be a copy of another image with the transparency dropped, not that cool. So I dropped the transparency of the soul picture and started applying filters to I see one that I like, I stumble across the glowing edges filter, that's the one. Then I dropped the color out of it. Applied various blurs and glows and some brush strokes to make it seem more ghostly. I also liquified the soul to make it seem like it was coming out of my body more. One thing that was really messing with me was the very dark section in the upper right part, so I added a radial gradient and a small light flare which I liked much better. Turned out how I wanted it too, pretty happy with it. It was funny because yesterday I'm talking to a friend and I wanted to get her opinion on this shot and she said, "is this to show how the life was ripped out of you last year?" It's not but it sure made me laugh.
I'm actually excited to do more conceptual stuff like this when I finally get this 365 project done. I'll have more time in post to play rather than hurrying to get something up everyday.
